A large turnout and impassioned pleas from parents, teachers, staff and other members of the community saved high school secretaries, summer school programs, graduation coaches and other vital components of the education the ASD provides students.
“Once you cut things like graduation coaches for the kids who need them most, you can't simply make them up in another year,” ACE President Duane Moran reminded the Board. “Their impact on the lives of our kids is permanent."
TOTEM President Sharon Baker pointed out the need that resulted in the targeted positions to exist in the first place. “That need isn't going to go away, the work isn't going to be eliminated,” Baker explained. “The people who now do that work and serve those needs are what's going to disappear."
