APEA/AFT Trainings

Union 101 is a two-day course designed for members that have never attended a union training and want to know about their union.  Topics covered are union history, how your union works, the language of labor, your rights at work, what to expect from your representatives, and choosing to get involved.  The instructors do their best to make this a fun class, and they ensure they answer your union questions.

Employee Representative 1 is a two-day course designed for members who are interested in becoming an Employee Rep for their Local or new Employee Reps. Topics covered are the Role of the Employee Rep, where to find the answers via Constitutions, Bylaws and Contracts, Communication, and how to represent a member in an investigative meeting. Union 101 is a pre-requisite for this course. NOTE: There may be extenuating circumstances where APEA/AFT Staff will grant an exception.

Employee Representative 2 is a two-day course designed for members who are Employee Representative for their Local.  This advanced-level course provides more in-depth training on Investigations, Grievances, Life after Janus and Organizing.  Members must have taken Employee Representative 1 training before signing up for this course.  NOTE: There may be extenuating circumstances where APEA/AFT Staff will grant an exception.

Workplace Bullying is a one-day course designed for members that have witnessed, experienced, or participated in Workplace Bullying.  Topics covered are defining, identifying, and responding to Workplace Bullying also known as the silent epidemic.
